Laboratory

Laboratory

For preservation and conservation of the age-old deterioting manuscripts a conservation laboratory at the headquarters was established in 1992 that commenced its work with the assistance of the technically skilled staff and soon it became a centre for conservation for all the manuscripts deposited in our repositories and proved helpful in guiding the sister institutes also.
Conservation is processed by way of both the methods- preservative and curative. To adopt the former, the manuscripts wrapped in papers, placed within cardboards and again tied in red clothes are kept in huge steel almirahs under the supervision that keeps the climatic conditions controlled. The use of naphthalene balls, paradychlorobenzine and other measures are applied for preventions.
Treatment of dry and wet manuscripts by cleaning, fumigation, deacidification, lamination and repairing are the curative methods applied to the damaged manuscripts.
