Keeping in view the concept of the progress of the Institute in collecting manuscripts from various sources, Government of Rajasthan supported the work by issuing a specific order to acquire manuscripts and miniature paintings from State Museums & libraries. As a result the Institute acquired manuscript-collections from the state libraries of Alwar, Tonk, Udaipur and Kota in 1962. Similarly by donations the Institute acquired a large number of manuscripts at Bikaner and Chittorgarh. The collection of the manuscripts thus acquired led to the foundation of branch repositories in these cities. Yet at the headquarters at Jodhpur and other repositories the process of collecting manuscripts through purchase & donation continued for decades together resulting in a large number of worth manuscripts amounting to 1.23 lakh. Later on, branch repository at Tonk was reshaped by the Government as a Center for Arabic & Persian Studies while a new repository at Bharatpur came into existence with the donation of 5000 manuscripts by the local Pandits & others.

Administratively the Institute is Governed by the Principal Secretary, Art, literature, Culture, & Archaeological Department Government of Rajasthan and day to day Administration and activity-oriented programmes are supervised by the Director at the headquarter. Branch repositories are supervised by Senior Research Asstts with adequate staff, academic & others.
